Bezos divorce agreement reduces Amazon founder’s ownership stake by 25 percent

Following the well-publicized divorce between Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, the couple has reportedly reached a settlement that has broken all previous records.

A divorce decree is expected to be issued within 90 days.

Jeff's 12 percent stake is now worth around $100billion which allows him to retain his title as the richest man in the world because he still has $4billion more than Bill Gates.

MacKenzie Bezos retains 4 per cent of Amazon, or about 19.7 million shares worth about $US35.7 billion, the company said in a filing, making her the world's fourth-richest woman, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Jeff Bezos said on Twitter that he was "grateful for her support and for her kindness in this process". "I'm grateful for her support and for her kindness in this process".

The couple first announced the end of their 25-year marriage in January, shining a spotlight on MacKenzie Bezos, who had stayed out of the limelight, amid speculation about the fate of the couple's combined fortune.

"Excited about my own plans", she continued.

Jeff Bezos followed moments later with his own tweet echoing hers and adding of his ex-wife, "She has been an extraordinary partner, ally, and mother".

MacKenzie Bezos tweeted Thursday that the couple's marriage was officially dissolved. "She is resourceful and brilliant".

Following the terms being disclosed, Bezos, who remains Amazon's chief executive and largest shareholder, took to Twitter to express his feelings on the end of this chapter. "Grateful for the past as I look forward to what comes next".

Bezos later accused the tabloid's publisher of threatening to publish explicit photos of him unless he stopped investigating how the Enquirer obtained his private messages.

While the pair have put out an amicable front on social media, claiming that they "remain cherished friends", the story has also had a salacious side, with the National Enquirer threating to publish nude selfies that Bezos sent to TV star Lauren Sanchez.
