Social media reacts to James passing Jordan

Today, James took to Instagram to reflect on his accomplishment and paid homage to his idol, MJ, in the process.

"Wanted to be like MJ, wanted to shoot fadeaways like MJ, wanted to stick my tongue out on dunks like MJ, wanted to wear my sneakers like MJ". I think about that throbbing mass of people that rendered the downtown streets into one sprawling metropolis, where stoplights and traffic laws no longer mattered and you could go anywhere you wanted.

"Hopefully I can inspire the next kid like myself".

James scored 7,919 of his points as a member of the Miami Heat, where he and Wade led the organization to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances, including two titles. "Except for me or him". "He was like lightning in a bottle for me. But Mike had no idea what he was doing for a kid growing up a 45-minute flight from Chicago when he was doing all that work". Just eight days ago, James moved into 10th place on the assists list, becoming the first player in league history to make the top 10 in points and assists.

Next up for LeBron on the list is trying to catch Kobe Bryant.

James tied Jordan when he drained a 19-foot jumper midway through the second quarter.

Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the National Basketball Association points record with 38,387, with long-time Utah great Karl Malone ranked second on 36,928.

LeBron James may not have gotten a ring with the Lakers yet but at least he got a chain!

James might now have the edge in terms of points, but that does not mean he has yet matched Jordan's tallies in terms of field goals or free throws made.

"I knew coming into this year that it would be different", James said after the Lakers' loss to the rival Clippers on Monday night.
