That would seem like a odd move to me given the massive popularity of the online side of Modern Warfare 2, so it does make me worry that they may be considering splitting the game up and releasing a separate remaster for the multiplayer side of things for ultimate cash-in potential.
A listing for a remastered version of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign has been spotted on the Pan European Game Information board (PEGI) website. Considering it was only listed for PS4, this could certainly mean it will be presented as a pre-order bonus for PS4 players and potentially become available on other platforms at a later date. Presumably that's a placeholder that someone has forgot to update. The listing mentions the game as "Call of Duty Modern 2 Warfare Campaign Remastered". Activision won't want to make the same mistake twice by tweaking the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer to include microtransactions, so it makes more sense to just put out the single player for those that want it and keep the multiplayer community in one place.
It is unclear at this point if this game is going to feature the multiplayer mode.
"Experience gripping and heart-racing action as you face off against a new threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse", reads the official game description.
Unlike the original Modern Warfare Remastered, this sequel only appears to be the game's campaign.
That said, while we have heard unofficial reports of the remaster, we haven't heard anything from Activision itself. This year marks the tenth anniversary of its release, as well as being the turn of developer Infinity Ward to take the helm of the annual new title. "We have high expectations for the game, but for modeling purposes, we are conservatively planning on upfront Q4 unit sales to be lower than Black Ops 4". Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign follows Task Force 141, led by Captain Soap MacTavish.
