Gasol has always been one of the most well-rounded big men in the entire league.
"Utah was making some progress in acquiring him, and I think that would have been a tremendous deal for Utah", Windhorst said. "Now Memphis is working on deals with Detroit and Toronto". They have shown interest in Conley and if they want to make the playoffs this would be a good move to do so.
All of which is to say, the Raptors lost two guys who hadn't been key pieces all season and one in Valanciunas who was replaced by someone who is significantly better at the same position.
Per Marc Stein, the Grizzlies want multiple first-round picks for Conley - similar to what the Knicks received last week for Kristaps Porzingis and what the Clippers received on Wednesday for Tobias Harris.
It does sound like Utah may have already known about Conley's preference to go to the East. Lowry, however, said he hasn't yet heard anything from the team about a potential trade. Harkless has another year on his contract, at $11.5 million, which would scare off teams looking to protect cap space next summer. "If Utah and Memphis came to terms, Conley would have to go ..." Sam Amick from The Athletic indicates that IN has add itself into the picture, too.
"Indications from Toronto and Pacers side that Grizzlies' price is prohibitively high", Amick reported.
The NBA trade deadline has become a spectacle in recent years, and Thursday's deadline is sure to be no different.
Gasol also has a $25.6 million player option for next season.
Conley, who's averaging 20.4 points and 6.3 assists in 53 games this season, looks like the Pistons' man.
