Tue. 8:26 am: OSU coach Meyer retiring after Rose Bowl

Earlier this season, Meyer addressed some of the retirement rumors and said he planned on coaching beyond this season at Ohio State.

Meyer will coach the final game of the season against Washington in the Rose Bowl on January 2, and offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be the new head coach of the Buckeyes.

At a packed news conference, Meyer explained that the headaches became severe last season during Ohio State's game at Penn State and have become a persistent problem this season.

That's true. Ohio State is 85-9 since hiring Meyer before the 2012 season. Meyer said his decision had to come before the December 19 signing day.

"The truth is you have a football coach who devoted 33 years of my life to student athletes", Meyer said. He later served as an assistant coach at Illinois State and Colorado State before working at Notre Dame for six years. Meyer recorded his second ideal 12-0 season.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Meyer started his coaching career with a two-year stint at Bowling Green State.

When he left Florida, Meyer cited health concerns as the main reason. Every one of those teams, except the first one which was banned from bowl games, was in the discussion for a national championship at some time in the season and the 2014 team won it all. North Carolina State coach Urban Meyer.

Rutgers coach Chris Ash was defensive coordinator for UrbanMeyer for two seasons at Ohio State, including the 2014 national championship team.

It's no secret, I am not big fan of Urban Meyer. His teams are 186-32 overall for a.853 career winning percentage.

Amid the scrutiny on Meyer's program, it also emerged that Zach Smith's treatment of his wife had drawn police scrutiny almost 10 years ago - shortly after Meyer first took him on as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida. We've been through this with Meyer before, in 2009 at Florida, and then again in 2010, when his decision stuck for a season. So does Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.

"It didn't take long for me to figure out what the expectations were on Ohio State football". They loved the candid, colorful Spurrier because he was not only a great tactician but an engaging personality; they tolerated the icy, aloof Meyer simply because he won a lot of games. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed.

Meyer's salary is $7.6 million in 2018 and he has about $38 million left on his contract.

The school, which was already embroiled in separate scandals involving alleged sex abuse by a now-deceased athletics doctor and a diving coach, put Meyer on leave August 1. The Gators finished in the top 15 of the AP Top 25 in his first four seasons.
