Last year, the same mall was shuttered early on Thanksgiving after a fight erupted between two women.

The gunman opened fire, shooting the teen twice in the torso, according to police. In the midst of this terrifying madness, a 12-year-old girl was also shot.

It's believed the gunfire broke out following an argument between the 18-year-old and the 21-year-old. Police said the incident began with an altercation between two teenagers which led to an exchange of gunfire. The two people injured have been hospitalized.

Police told CNN that the young girl "does not have life-threatening injuries", and is now being treated for her injuries.

An 18-year-old man from Birmingham was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. She was reported in stable condition at Children's Hospital.

Social media video posted online reportedly from inside the mall during the shooting depicted chaotic scenes with numerous rounds of gunfire heard.

Brookfield Properties Spokeswoman Lindsay Kahn tells ABC's WNEP News, "We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department and are grateful for their swift action to contain the situation". The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. It's located outside the city of Birmingham, in the city of Hoover. The officers were on the scene thanks to beefed up mall security for the holiday shopping spree, and may have prevented more violence since several bystanders were seen with guns likewise drawn.

Police said the fight occurred on the mall's second floor concourse area, near the entrance to the Footaction shoe store. "While there is no current danger to our community, the shopping center will remain closed for tonight".
