The Vikings were so close to defeating the Packers at Lambeau Field, but Daniel Carlson's missed field goal in overtime cost them the game. He was 17-of-25 on career field goal attempts and 28-of-31 on PATs. He was released by the Cowboys during roster cuts this year after they chose to go with a kicker in Brett Maher who had never kicked during the regular season of the NFL.
Bailey has made 186 of 211 field-goal attempts, an accuracy greater than 88 percent that trails only Baltimore's Justin Tucker. In his first seven years of his career with the Cowboys, he put together some impressive campaigns as one of the most accurate kickers in the league.
Hopefully this'll be the end of the Vikings kicking woes, at least for field goals and extra points. He is 27 out of 40 on kicks 50 yards or longer.
Carlson's last miss to win the game was a relatively short 35-yard try. But on Sunday, in his second regular-season game, he went 0-of-3 on field goals.
Carlson was awarded the job when the Vikings let Kai Forbath go on August 20, and Carlson pulled two field-goal tries wide left in an exhibition game four days later. "You think you've got a guy for a while, and then he goes out and misses three in a big game. But things happen, I guess". There was no third season for Forbath in Minnesota.
"That's water off a duck's back", Zimmer said. "He's got to make it".
With a roster built for the Super Bowl, the Minnesota Vikings were in no position to practice patience with a struggling kicker.
There are multiple reports that Bailey turned down four strong offers previously. If he can come through in the areas Carlson and others before him couldn't, Minnesota might finally solve its kicking woes.
