US officials also are eager to resume searches in North Korea for more remains, an effort that has been stalled for more than a decade due to rising nuclear tensions.

She is hopeful that her father's remains are among those arriving on Wednesday.

Monday's reports about ongoing activities at Sanumdong are the latest to indicate that North Korea is still working on its nuclear and missile facilities, despite ongoing talks with the USA about disarmament.

After North Korea said in August 2017 it would target waters around Guam, a USA territory in the Pacific, the ministry deployed PAC-3 units to the four prefectures over which the missiles were expected to fly. I just think that we are now we are going to start the process of denuclearization of North Korea, and I believe that he's going back and will start it virtually immediately, and he's already indicated that and you look at what he's done.

The remains were then moved in gray vans to an airfield where US and South Korean soldiers loaded them one by one into transport planes. The remains were transferred to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency lab at Hickam for identification.

A US defense official said Tuesday that it probably will take months if not years to fully determine individual identities from the remains. That's according to a report by The Washington Post, which cited officials who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to describe classified intelligence.

So far, the remains have not been confirmed as those of American service members.

In the past, North Korea turned over commingled remains.

During his Senate testimony on July 25, Pompeo said that factories in North Korea "continue to produce fissile material". There were estimated 5,300 Americans who did not return home from the conflict.

There was activity at the Sanumdong site before President Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, during which the two leaders discussed the future of the latter's nuclear weapons program.

Indonesian authorities have invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games, which will run from August 18 until September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang.

After a solemn ceremony at the USA military's Osan Air Base in South Korea, 55 boxes of remains draped in the United Nations flag were taken to a US military plane, which will then take them to a military laboratory in Hawaii for further analysis and identification.

Trump last week thanked Kim for keeping the promise he made as part of their talks about North Korea's denuclearization.

"It's my duty to provide assurance for all countries in the world, Asia, including North Korea, that the safety in Indonesia is stable".

An image taken on July 7 showed a bright-red covered trailer in a loading area that appears to be identical to those vehicles the country has previously used to transport ICBMs.

What are experts saying about this?

Officials say USA spy agencies, citing evidence including recent satellite photos, have spotted signs that the North is building new intercontinental ballistic missiles, according to the Washington Post.
