DeMar DeRozan #10 of the Toronto Raptors looks on during the closing second of the Raptors 106-98 loss to the Washington Wizards during Game Four of Round One of the 2018 NBA Playoffs at Capital One Arena on April 22, 2018 in Washington, DC.
When Kawhi Leonard met with the Toronto Raptors on Friday, he was joined by his advisor Dennis Robertson.
Leonard's story the past season is one of the stranger ones in the National Basketball Association, as he had a falling out with a franchise that seemed committed to him but then had to find a landing place for him in the trade market. "So, not necessarily talking about a trade but what I expect from him going forward, and I think that's where the gap was".
As it stands right now, DeRozan's loyalty to the Raptors has been disrespected and Leonard is not happy going to Toronto. If there was a miscommunication there I do apologize to DeMar, his family, and his representation.
"I think the whole time he's been here [in San Antonio] I've talked to him maybe a handful of times, and I can count on one hand how many words he's really said to me". Leonard has been clear that he plans to sign with the Lakers in free agency next summer.
Lewenberg also points out that the trade is final and has been for days.
"You can't do this same thing over and over again", Ujiri said.
Robinson, who received the Stuart Scott ENSPIRE Award, named after the celebrated ESPN anchor, at the Sports Humanitarian Awards (which will be aired at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday on ESPN) for his work building publicly funded charter schools to help students prepare for a college education, said he is still perplexed by Leonard's exit. Ujiri said the player "didn't express a lack of interest to play in Canada to me".
My goodness, we've officially seen it all.
