Chicago bracing for risky heat wave — CITY OF NORTHLAKE


- The National Weather Service has extended a Heat Advisory for Ohio County until 7 p.m. Sunday night.

High humidity coupled with soaring temperatures in the lower 90s will add up to a heat index - what temperatures feel like - in the upper 90s starting Sunday, according to Kennedy. The heat index should approach 100 on Friday afternoon and could get as high at 110 on Saturday afternoon.

The nearest cooling center may be found by calling 311, or visiting the city's "Beat the Heat" website. "Drink plenty of water, use air conditioning or go to an air-conditioned place, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the periods of intense heat".

Los Angeles, under the influence of a cool Pacific Ocean, is expected to reach only 78 on Independence Day, but the pain will come eventually, according to the National Weather Service.
