Director Patty Jenkins confirmed the news on Twitter and said she 'can't wait to finally work with one of my favourites'.
Kristen Wiig will play a villain in the next "Wonder Woman" film.
DC Comics's first foray into the Wonder Woman universe was a box office hit, raking in more than $800 million worldwide and gaining critic and fan approval. The result? She's essentially immortal and incredibly powerful, but she's also, y'know, a humanoid Cheetah.
Kristin Wiig has officially been cast as Wonder Woman's next villain. And SO excited by what we have planned. In the movie, Wiig will reportedly play Barbara Ann Minerva, a British anthropologist, who turns into a cheetah god in a freaky accident.
Little is known about the Wonder Woman follow-up aside from that it will be set amid the Cold War of the 1980s.
Wonder Woman 2 will begin shooting later this year.
"Wonder Woman 2" is due for theaters on November 1, 2019, and comes on the heels of the blockbuster success of the 2017 movie, which starred Gal Gadot as the heroic lead character. Something that Wonder Woman was unable to do when it came to Steve Trevor in the first movie.
