Rita Moreno Rewears Oscars Gown From 1962

In a link to the past, Rita Moreno honoured Academy Awards history by donning the same gown with a ball skirt she wore in 1962, when she won an Oscar for "West Side Story". "It looks like people are embracing personal style more than just wearing a typical dress".

Actress Rita Moreno re-wore her Filipino-made 1962 Oscars gown during the 90th Academy Awards.

"I know, you would think it would tarnish", she says. It's clearly undergone some alterations, from a halter to a strapless gown, and Moreno added a gold necklace, some serious earrings, a big old bracelet, black headband, and her daughter as her date.

How do you keep a dress pristine for Tom Cruise's entire life? There's a reason - she also wore it to the Academy Awards in 1962, proving that some fashion truly is timeless.

Just two months after his death, celebrated Filipino designer Pitoy Moreno's work was once again celebrated on the world stage.

"I did not expect to win", she reflected on her win for Best Supporting Actress 56 years ago. Tiffany Haddish also re-wore her Alexander McQueen white dress for the third time.

Presenter Salma Hayek, wearing a lilac Gucci dress with tiers of sequins and rhinestones worthy of "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights", cited the female solidarity that was changing how Hollywood was run.

Moreno is one of the twelve people who owns an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony Award, or EGOT, the four major annual American entertainment Awards. He wore belt-leather straps that crossed his chest and she chose a sheer, long-sleeve gown in soft blue.

Host Jimmy Kimmel opened with a monologue that mixed Weinstein punchlines with earnest comments about reforming gender equality in Hollywood.
