Tiger Woods to play at Innisbrook

Woods announced Friday that he will not only compete in the Arnold Palmer Invitational as expected, he will also play in the Valspar Championship next week.

Since returning from his most recent back surgery, Woods tied for ninth at the 18-player Hero World Challenge in December in the Bahamas, tied for 23rd at Torrey Pines in January, missed the cut at Riviera and finished 12th last week at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens.

The Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course will represent Woods' fourth PGA Tour start of the season.

The 42-year-old may be making his debut in the Valspar Championship but has a great record at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. On the other end of the spectrum resides Bay Hill, where Woods has won eight times. He has, however, previously played at Innisbrook - at the 1996 JC Penney Mixed Team event when he was paired with former U.S. Women's Amateur champion Kelli Kuehne.

Woods, ranked 389th in the world rankings, has said he needs more "tournament reps" to be ready for the Masters but eligibility issues limit the number of events he can play between now and April. That was the goal when I first came back.

Last week's performance by Woods was so encouraging that his odds to win the April 5-8 Masters dropped to 16-1, according to Westgate Las Vegas Superbook.

"I need to keep playing tournaments", Woods said after the Honda Classic.

Tiger Woods' return to golf has been a positive one with the 14-time major victor recently earning his first top-15 finish since 2015.

"I missed the golf ball in the correct spots and I had control of my ball. The more I play tournament golf, the better I'll get at it".
