Black Panther breaks the box office

The new February 24 dated chart (where "Black Panther: The Album" starts at No. 1) will be posted on the publication's websites on Wednesday, one day later than usual, due to the President's Day holiday in the United States on Monday.

"Black Panther" is the 18th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The superhero film scored the fifth highest opening of all time in North America.

Key action scenes were filmed in the port city of Busan, and that is believed to have driven its popularity.

In second place, Sony's animated adventure comedy film "Peter Rabbit" took in an estimated USD17.25 million in its second weekend.

One auto chase scene, shot in Busan's Gwangalli Beach area, involved 150 cars and more than 700 people, The Hollywood Reporter said.

However on social media, much of the more humorous reaction from Koreans referred to the film's failure to capture the reality of Busan's crowded roads or nightlife. I was Busan until just a few days ago and Busan's roads are quite crowded.

"Hollywood is lifting us up", writes CNN's Van Jones.

During filming past year, director Ryan Coogler described Busan as "a place full of energy, where modern architecture and traditional buildings create great harmony against the backdrop of a attractive beach". The helmet actually comes really close to mimicking the one worn by actor Chadwick Boseman who plays T'Challa / Black Panther in the film. On review aggregation site RottenTomatoes, it scored a 97 percent certified fresh rating, making it on track to taking the title of the highest superhero "Tomatometer" ever. In the global market, the film has performed the best in South Korea by registering a collection of $25.3 million, Variety reports.

Black Panther is now in theaters.

Internationally, Black Panther has already earned $47 million after three days in 40 worldwide markets.

The film is not only facing competition from this one but from other Bollywood films like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat and Sonam Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte's PadMan.
