The commercial is just one part of a much larger collaboration between Lexus and the film. The movie Black Panther has received massive buzz long before production began and the momentum hasn't stopped.
Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore believes that the upcoming superhero film Black Panther doesn't rely on current plot points in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and therefore can be passed off as a standalone project. Sadly, it's unclear whether or not these numbers reflect that four-day weekend of the typical Friday-Sunday one.
If tracking is correct, Black Panther will come in ahead of stand-alone Marvel pic Doctor Strange, which posted a three-day debut of $85 million in November 2016. Given that it was a standalone origin film, that was pretty darn good in and of itself.
Tracking showed total awareness of Black Panther at 83%, unaided awareness at 35%, and definite interest at 56%.
Projections for the film are now in, and they're nothing short of impressive. "And at the same time, the action is something we haven't seen before", added the Oscar victor.
T'Challa's father T'Chaka is king of the African nation Wakanda and has the ceremonial title Black Panther as the chief of the panther tribe, but is killed when a bomb goes off at the UN making his son the Black Panther.
The action is set around Black Panther trying to recover stolen vibranium at the same time his alter ego, King T'Challa, needs to represent his country at a world leadership conference.
