Multiple deputies down in Colorado, shelter in place ordered for area residents

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office tweeted account that a major highway south of the city was shut down Sunday, December 31.

Residents in the vicinity were advised to stay inside and avoid exterior walls and windows.

County officials set up an emergency shelter for those displaced by the incident, citing the "size and scope of the investigation".

US President Donald Trump offered his condolences to the shooting victims.

Law enforcement agencies including the Parker Police Department, the Lone Tree Police Department, the Castle Rock Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol were lending assistance.

9NEWS has a crew on the scene and will update this story as more information is released. We can only imagine the depth of grief they are experiencing.

The scene was videotaped and posted on the Douglas County sheriff's Facebook page under the heading: "Motorcade for our fallen deputy".

My heart breaks for all of those affected by the bad tragedy in Douglas County.

The four injured officers, who range in age from 28 to 41, were in stable condition, and the two civilian injuries were not life-threatening.

Spurlock said at this point, investigators are still waiting for search warrants.
