The Chicago National Weather Service has issued a combination of Wind Chill Warnings and Advisories across the entire Chicago area from 9PM CST Sunday evening until noon CST Tuesday calling for unsafe wind chills -20 to -35-degrees.
The weather service expects wind chills to fall into the 15 to 20 below zero range at times. Wind chills of 5-15 below. Wind Chill Advisory Sunday in effect from 6 PM Sunday through noon Monday. Not only a record cold morning, but a record cold high temperature as well.
Temperatures Saturday morning fell to between 5 and 15 degrees below zero near Madison and areas to the west and north of town.
Partly cloudy and very cold with a stray evening flurry. Highs through the New Year for most will not top 0° (Fahrenheit).
Meteorologist Sarah Fletcher says a cold front moved through Friday night and cold arctic air will take over into the New Year.
Tuesday is when temperatures will reach the single digits above zero.
That high pressure will slowly slide east in our direction by the middle of the week, as the winds and cold both slowly ease by Wednesday.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, high near 15.
Tuesday: Sunny, high near 13. Skies will remain mostly sunny as the cold but quiet weather pattern continues through the first half of the first week of 2018. Hang in there, for a long stretch of incessant cold continues indefinitely.
