It has emerged that President Trump once joked that Mike Pence "wants to hang" all gay people. The legal scholar had said that, if the Supreme Court did so, many states would likely legalize abortion on their own. "You've wasted all this time and energy on it, and it's not going to end abortion anyway", he reportedly said.

One of the President's allies, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, told the New Yorker that he's anxious what kind of president Pence would be, noting his alignment with the conservative billionaire Koch brothers. Trump turned to address Pence on that point.

As part of an article published by the New Yorker, it detailed the conversations that Donald Trump had about his vice president.

But it has reportedly caused friction with the less-devout Mr Trump, who has spoken at conservative Christian conferences but does not attend church regularly.

As Indiana governor, Pence signed the 2015 Religious Freedom Act, which allowed businesses to discriminate against gays. The law led to an enormous nation-wide boycott of the state, resulting in Pence and other lawmakers passing a subsequent measure to "fix" their mistakes.

In particular, Pence's longstanding connection to libertarian megadonors Charles and David Koch - former political enemies of Trump - has helped shape the current White House. Drollinger describes Catholicism as "a false religion", calls homosexuality "a sin", and believes that a wife must "submit" to her husband.

According to the New York Times, he has a long history of opposing legislation that would protect the LGBTQ+ community. Administration members who attend include Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Mayer writes.
