He also lauded the agency's probe into the funding of separatists, saying it has put a hurdle in the flow of funds to the militants and their morale was hit badly.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said high-quality fake currency acts as oxygen for terrorism and hailed the NIA for curbing the fake currency racket across the country.
Inaugurating the new headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) here, Singh said no civilised country can accept the rise of terrorism on its soil.
He said: "High-quality fake currencies act as oxygen for terrorism". Stating that cyber terrorism is a major terror threat facing several countries in the world, Rajnath Singh said that CISF needs to upgrade and technologically advance itself to face and counter any incident of cyber terrorism.
The NIA, over the past two months, arrested ten influential separatist leaders and businessmen from the Valley, for their alleged role in the procurement of funds from Pakistan.
The NIA director general-designates comments came after the home minister complimented the outgoing chief of the NIA, Sharad Kumar, for the achievements of the investigating agency. While appreciating the role of the NIA in probing terror cases, the minister claimed it was a challenging task as almost 95 per cent of its cases were resulting in conviction.
Singh also claimed that India has taken remarkable steps to highlight the menace of terrorism in the global forums. PM Narendra Modi, he added, had succeeded in bringing the worldwide community on board over the issue. I'm confident that NIA will maintain its credibility & professionalism, he added.
Mr Kumar claimed investigations by the NIA in the last few years revealed a diverse range of illegal activities like terror funding to specific cases of terror, including the killing of innocent persons.
