Apple Launches Formal Investigation as iPhone 8 Explodes While Charging

The Apple iPhone 8 Plus were not wanted - at the start of their sales nearly no one came, and it was the first time in 10 years of the existence of such mobile phones.

In Taiwan, a woman allegedly saw her 64GB iPhone 8 Plus split open whilst it was charging via the official Apple charger.

Wireless charging and the new A11 chip are really the only new things about the iPhone 8 compared to the iPhone 7. The iPhone 8 Plus starts at US$799, which is US$30 higher than that of the iPhone 7 Plus at launch.

Last month, Apple announced its iPhone 8 and 8 Plus flagship devices alongside the 10-year anniversary iPhone X. This deal also applies to the new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Customers who pre-order through T-Mobile are automatically eligible, and it applies to iPhone 8 and 8 Plus buyers as well.

It must be noted that the solution actually comes from Belkin, which came up with an adaptor that enables users to plug in a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the Lightning cable for charging. iPhone users who were deprived of the headphone jack can now get this iPhone dongle at Apple retail stores. This is the upgraded version of the 2016 Belkin "Rockstar" adapter, which came with two Lightning ports. Meanwhile, Apple is said to be investigating the problem.

In order to see if this indeed is a widespread issue, we will certainly have to wait as Apple concludes its investigations.

The issue appears to affect consumers using many different wireless carriers, as well as both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which were made available to the public September 22. Many in the industry feel that Apple is doing this to market its new 10th-anniversary special edition iPhone X which is dubbed as the costliest iPhone ever.

All told, it's far too soon to be calling Apple's 2017 iPhone lineup a dud, as some have prematurely done.

This is not the first time Apple has done this. Apple likes to create the best products and a good return on them.

Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi have successfully gained access to key supply chain partners, which has allowed them to launch designs with bezel-free, full displays, Augmented Reality, in-house chipsets and advanced camera features.

Big Picture: Investors are suddenly skittish about Apple's new phones, but they could be overlooking the iPhone X's ability to spur additional sales. One "feature" you probably wouldn't be looking for, however, is the phone to explode while charging.

Verizon will offer the iPhone X at the same time as the rest of the industry, though we haven't received word on promotions yet.
