Macklemore Cancels Aus Press Conference Ahead Of NRL Grand Final

Macklemore tweeted on Friday claiming, "Love is winning".

USA rapper Macklemore has cancelled his press conference today ahead of Sunday's performance at the NRL Grand Final.

But conservative politicians and media personalities have expressed outrage at his plans to sing his pro-marriage equality anthem, "Same Love".

She argued homegrown heroes such as John Farnham should be given top billing at the NRL Grand Final.

On Wednesday, Abbott tweeted a petition from retired NRL player Tony Wall saying, "footy fans shouldn't be subjected to a politicized grand final".

Ironically, the controversy helped the track move to the top of the iTunes chart in Australia this week.

"I think that is what music has the power to do- is not divide people- but create an environment where people can start a debate, can have a conversation, bring a message to the forefront", Macklemore told Nine New Sydney upon his arrival in Australia.

"So I need to figure out how to do that and what that looks like, but that is something I am going to do".

Macklemore hit back at Tony Abbott yesteray.

Earlier this week, Mr Abbott's own daughter Frances Abbott appeared in an advert for the Yes campaign. "It is absolutely ridiculous", Senator Hanson told Channel Seven.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton told local radio 2GB the performance was disrespectful to employees and fans who were against same-sex marriage.

The coalition of Marriage said it was "bizarre that the NRL would choose to use its half-time entertainment to push a message which it knows millions of Australians disagree with".

There's no legal requirement for Australia to hold a national vote, nor is it a common method of legislating issues, but Turnbull chose the survey as a way to resolve the issue, pledging to pass same-sex marriage is the people vote "yes".

Rapper Macklemore has pledged a donation to the "Yes" campaign for marriage equality.

"I think people have had up to here with the same-sex marriage issue".

Attorney-General George Brandis noted Same Love is one of the singer's chart- topping songs and one of four he will perform at the game in Sydney on Saturday.
