Arsenal manager Wenger: Wilshere on his way 'back to his best'

Wilshere is out of contract at the end of the season and has admitted that he is essentially now playing for his future as he attempts to earn an extension with his boyhood club. His fine performance in Belarus showed he is rediscovering his confidence, and he is determined to earn an extension.

Wilshere has endured a miserable spell as he slipped down the pecking order with Arsenal and England before finding himself sent on loan to Bournemouth last season. It was only in April that I got injured.

Some fleeting substitute appearances in recent weeks have not resulted in him hitting the 100 mark, although he has gone close.

The Three Lions boss said: "I saw Jack play an Under-23s game not so long ago".

"I was out for four months with the fractured shin". Now Olly can play with freedom again and hopefully rediscover the form that made him such a vital part of our side last season, even if it was often from the subs bench that he did the damage. It was only in April that I got an impact injury'. That was unfortunate timing but throughout my rehab it went well. "He's on his way back to his best and showed that", said Wenger. He has been speaking to me. I have played several positions in it - left wing-back, left off the forward, central midfield.

"I am back training, it has been a while, and I am enjoying it".

Just two minutes later the same two players combined and this time Walcott scored. I think he is on a good way back to his best. And he declared: "Of course I want to stay at Arsenal". Of course I do. It has been a while since I felt a proper Arsenal player.

The 30-year-old reached his milestone faster than Robin van Persie (238 games) and Dennis Bergkamp (296), but slower than Arsenal greats like Ian Wright (143) and Thierry Henry (181). However, there is one thing that you should know about me before you read this piece: I have had two ACL surgeries, one to my right knee; one to my left knee. Wilshere played a one-two with Olivier Giroud then put in a pinpoint cross for Walcott. I am doing everything I can to stay fit, training well, we will see.

That was a match you'd never see from Arsenal in the Champions League.
