The Red Arrow is the Wisconsin National Guard's largest unit, and it is headquartered at Camp Williams in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, with units spread across all of Wisconsin as well as one battalion in MI.
Most of the 24 guardsmen deploying this week are from the Lansing and Grand Ledge areas, Dancer says, as well as several coming from the Selfridge Air National Guard base in Macomb County.
The teams will help restore airfields that are inaccessible or unusable, and assist in rescue operations. However, even if the Red Arrow mobilized, more than 6,000 additional Soldiers and Airmen from the Wisconsin National Guard remain ready and available to serve our state and nation, if needed.
Lieutenant Colonel Lindy White said the National Guard has been prepared to deploy since Friday, they were just waiting for notification of the need.
The activation includes members of the Texas National Guard and the Texas State Guard with the Texas Military Forces, officials said. The storm moved inland, then back to the coast before heading ashore again.
