ABC-7 was at the Armed Forces Reserve Center as uniformed service members made their way inside with their bags packed.

The Kentucky Air National Guard also deployed 18 more Air Guardsmen earlier this week and another 8 earlier Tuesday afternoon.

"There are now 30 National Guard helicopters in the fight ... supporting not only airborne search and rescue efforts with hoist capacity, but also supporting medevac capacity, where required", the general said.

The Texas Army National Guard's 386th Engineer Battalion teamed up with Texas Task Force 1 and the Cypress Creek Fire Department yesterday to bring 1,000 Cypress Creek residents to safety from high-rising waters as heavy rains from Hurricane Harvey continued to fall.

"While this is still a unsafe situation with a long response effort ahead, the state and people of Texas are resilient", said FEMA Administrator Brock Long.

The Red Arrow is the Wisconsin National Guard's largest unit, and it is headquartered at Camp Williams in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, with units spread across all of Wisconsin as well as one battalion in MI.

Most of the 24 guardsmen deploying this week are from the Lansing and Grand Ledge areas, Dancer says, as well as several coming from the Selfridge Air National Guard base in Macomb County.

The teams will help restore airfields that are inaccessible or unusable, and assist in rescue operations. However, even if the Red Arrow mobilized, more than 6,000 additional Soldiers and Airmen from the Wisconsin National Guard remain ready and available to serve our state and nation, if needed.

Lieutenant Colonel Lindy White said the National Guard has been prepared to deploy since Friday, they were just waiting for notification of the need.

The activation includes members of the Texas National Guard and the Texas State Guard with the Texas Military Forces, officials said. The storm moved inland, then back to the coast before heading ashore again.

"The 193rd Special Operations Wing has extensive experience with this type of mission and we are happy to assist our sister states when disaster strikes", said Maj. Gen.
