Two dead and six injured in Finland knife attack


"Due to information received during the night, the Turku stabbings are now being investigated as murders with terrorist intent", the National Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

Witness Laura Laine said she was alerted by hearing a young woman screaming loudly at the corner of the market square.

Police presence has been ramped up around the country, and YLE quotes the interior minister saying that "surveillance of foreigners was to be stepped up at ports and airports".

"We have a heightened awareness level of terrorism now but we did not have any specific threats to act upon", Turku Superintendent Stephan Sundqvist told CNN.

Multiple ambulances, fire engines, and police cars are attending the centre of the city, which is 90 miles west of Helsinki.

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä has called an emergency meeting with his cabinet. Police on Saturday raised the number of injured in the attack from six to eight.

The stabbing in Finland comes on the heels of ISIS terrorists attack in Barcelona which left 13 people dead and 100 others injured. I thought, it's just kids having fun. but then people started to move around and I saw a man with a knife in his hand, stabbing a woman.
