Multiple people shot at NY hospital; shooter dead, NYPD says


At least one of the doctors was being treated by people inside the hospital, who had used a fire hose as a tourniquet, the official said. NYPD spokesman J. Peter Donald said in tweet around 4 p.m. that the suspect was dead. Police have identified the shooter as 45-year-old Henry Bello, a former employee at the hospital. NBC New York is reporting that the suspect was dressed a doctor's coat upon entering the hospital.

The NYPD says the gunman at a New York City hospital is dead.

The incident occurred at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital on Friday afternoon.

UPDATE: The shooter is deceased.

Police had earlier asked city residents to avoid the area surrounding the hospital out of concern for public safety.

Eye-witnesses said police are now searching the hospital floor by floor as they hunt the active gunman.
