Mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick killed in boat accident

Police say 71-year-old Bonnie Kalanick was killed in a boat that sank in Pine Flat Lake, California. The accident was fatal for Kalanick's mother, Bonnie, while leaving his father Donald in serious but stable condition at the hospital according to New York Times reporter Mike Issac. Her husband Donald is in serious condition following the tragic accident.

Bonnie Kalanick had already passed away and her husband was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center. Many people took to social media to offer their thoughts and prayers on the awful loss that Travis has suffered. THE ORIGINAL STORY:Uber issued the following statement regarding the accident: "Last night Travis and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy".

About 5pm local time on Friday, officers were called to the scene of the accident and found the Kalanicks on a shore of the lake, the Fresno County Sheriff's office said.

On Mother's Day two weeks ago, Kalanick shared photos of him and his mother from his childhood on Facebook.

The sheriff's office says an autopsy of the woman is planned.

Deputies will be examining the boat to see what led up to the accident. The company has since grown to become an global operation with a market value of almost $70bn.

The couple was said to be longtime boaters. Kalanick's brother, Cory, is a fireman with the Fresno fire department.
