Deputy fatally shot en route to double-murder scene

Sadler says that deputy was fatally shot during the traffic stop.

Lt. Mainhart was killed on May 11 after initiating a traffic stop with James Bowden, according to Arkansas State Police.

KATV broadcast an interview Thursday that it said was with the suspect's father, James Bowden which he says the incident stemmed from an argument his son had with his girlfriend.

The longtime lawman who oversaw the Los Angeles jail system is facing a lengthy term behind bars. Mainhart was taken to a hospital, but then was pronounced dead.

The ruling this week by a MA judge vacating Aaron Hernandez's murder conviction has angered the victim's family and roiled prosecutors.

Investigators haven't released the names or ages of the female victims, or said how they were killed.

A wolf advocacy group has doubled the reward for information leading to whoever shot a rare white wolf found inside Yellowstone National Park.

During the five hour standoff with police, Bowden held one woman hostage inside a residence who was eventually released before his surrender and arrest. It's just the usual small-town stuff.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in a news release Thursday that he sends his deepest sympathies to Mainhart's family.

Sheriff JR Smith asked people to keep the Yell County Sheriff's Office in their thoughts and prayers.

The fatal shooting of Mainhart was on the same day of the 36th annual memorial to honor fallen officers at the Arkansas state Capitol.

Mainhart was a five-year veteran of the Yell County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff Bill Gilkey said.

"While today will mark his end of watch, he never wavered in his steadfast commitment and responsibility to safeguard his neighbors from harm". A short-time later a motorist passing the site notified local law enforcement Lieutenant Mainhart had been shot.

Mainhart severed 4 years in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Officer.
