Liverpool final score, highlights: Aguero, Milner score in intense draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says that his side had the chances to beat Manchester City at the Etihad, but admits that the 1-1 draw is a fair result.

"We arrive here against Liverpool, who have no Europe all season and one week to prepare".

Monaco and Atletico Madrid became the latest UEFA Champions League quarterfinalists after eliminating their respective opponents, Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen, in the return leg of the last 16 on Wednesday. "I am so proud", said Guardiola, whose side were knocked out of the Champions League by Monaco in mid-week.

Except that Liverpool have played two more games than their closest challengers, Arsenal and Manchester United. It is hard to defend this. In other countries it is hard, here a win is everything, in other countries if you played with other styles you would have an empty stadium.

"The lads did really well, so I'm fine with this". "For me it's a big challenge and I want to deal with that".

"I know a lot of reasons why we couldn't and, as I said, it's a long-term project and if I wake up every morning and think, "Oh my god, we lost the points there and there" it wouldn't make it better, so I don't do it".

"A lot of teams have failed [against them]".

"They need the process, they need time to build and to be settled, but I am delighted with his performance and how good he will be for your national team in the future, I am pretty sure of that, how important he will be". But we will try everything.

The Reds have the best record against top six competition, and their recent form against City has been their best run against the Citizens since 1981. "We defend 40m away [from goal] because I always believe that when the ball's far from our goal, we're safe". We could have scored more.

The first moment of controversy came on 15 minutes when Sergio Aguero appeared to be impeded as he lunged to meet Sterling's low cross, but the referee wasn't interested. Tomorrow I will be happy but in this moment I am a little bit disappointed, not too much but a little bit. But it happens and we'll learn. The forward returned to training on Friday, although striker Divock Origi is a doubt after missing Thursday's session. Liverpool will, however, welcome back defender Dejan Lovren, who has missed the club's last five matches due to a knee problem.

Those wins over Tottenham and Arsenal have helped Liverpool get their Champions League bid back on track and they'd go above City with another win on Sunday.

Victory over City, which would be their sixth in seven against the Sky Blues in the league, would propel Liverpool above Pep Guardiola's side in what has become a five-club battle for second, third and fourth spots behind leaders Chelsea.

Aguero has scored 10+ goals in all six of his Premier League seasons.
