Two of the nation's best offenses, coming off impressive second halves of the season, dueled in an exciting first-round matchup to begin Friday's tournament action, with No. 7 seed MI pulling off a 92-91 win over the No. 10 seed Cowboys in Indianapolis, thanks especially to absurdly prolific 3-point shooting.

MI toppled four more teams in the Big Ten Tournament and then made 16 three-point shots, 11 in the second half, against the Cowboys.

With less than three minutes left in regulation, Oklahoma State was scoring 1.47 points per possession in the second half and MI 1.63, according to Gasaway.

MI head coach John Beilein called time out and his discussion during the time out and CBS commercial break must have been math oriented on how threes are better than twos. They're just much more aggressive. Bridges averages 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds while Ward scores 13.7 and grabs 6.5 rebounds.

This is something Michigan State has struggled with all season long. That might not seem like much, but, in a 40-minute college basketball game, that is 21.5% more playing time than anyone else on the team. The second-seeded Cardinals square off with Jacksonville State later this afternoon.

Michigan State plays in the Richmond Spider Invitational, where they'll face Campbell, Richmond, and Cornell, teams that are 268, 244, and 76th in RPI.

Region: Midwest. Seed: No. 7.

Doug Gottlieb, CBS basketball analyst and Oklahoma State alumnus, believed his alma mater would beat MI for a number of reasons. Best case scenario for them is a game in the 50's.

MI erased a six-point second-half deficit with a run of four 3s, the last from Walton with 12:28 to go to take a 62-61 lead.

The No. 9 seed Michigan State Spartans will take the floor for their 20th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance Friday evening against No. 8 seed Miami (FL) at 9:20 p.m. ET.

U-M hit 11 of its first 15 three-pointers after halftime, burying the Cowboys in their best shooting game in nearly two months.

"And now that it's over, it's going to hit the seniors hard, and they're going to start realizing that this is it". I know, I know. you're weeping for them, aren't you?

Wilson finished with 19 points (6-12 FG, 6-6 FT), five rebounds and four blocked shots.

"Any of the things that MI does well, I think Oklahoma State does as well or better". Michigan State has also lost three of the last four coming in, but those defeats have come by a combined total of 11 points.

Walton's 3-pointer with 9:06 remaining pushed MI into a 70-64 lead, but Evans countered with a layup to pull the Cowboys to within 70-66. We've got your back.

Iona kept pace with some insane 3-pointers, but OR overwhelmed them in the paint.

Big Ten Conference play is one week away. It might look like that to outsiders because Michigan State barely squeaked into the tournament, but losing four starters is what affected the Spartans most.

Davon Reed has been the team leader with 15 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while Ja'Quan Newton is putting up 13.4 points per contest. Maryland was supposed to take over the Big Ten conference when they joined. and they're selected as the preseason favorite again this year.
